DEXAMETHASONE Injection

Injectable, oral & ophthalmic glucocorticoid

Long acting; 30X more potent than hydrocortisone; no mineralocorticoid activity

If using for therapy, goal is to use as much as is required & as little as possible for as short an amount of time as possible, Dexamethasone is used to treat many different inflammatory conditions such as allergic disorders and skin conditions. Dexamethasone is also used to treat ulcerative colitis, arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, and breathing disorders.

Primary adverse effects are “Cushingoid” in nature with sustained use, but acute effects (primarily GI, colon perforation in dogs after high doses) can be seen.
